Piston Filling Pump for Sterile Liquids

Piston Filling Pump for Sterile Liquids

The DUS piston pump is most effectively designed for filling sterile, water-thin products such as parenteral drugs and shear sensitive liquids. This sanitary positive displacement pump is ideally used in the pharmaceutical, biotech, and diagnostic industries and meets good manufacturing practices.

Capabilities of the DUS piston pump reach .05mL to 1100mL and have a fill accuracy of ± ¼ %.  The intake valve can be either one of three types: Duck Bill, Ball Check, or Pinch Valve, while the discharge valve can be one of four types: DNP/R (Standard), Duck Valve, Pinch Valve, or Ball Check Valve.

Each DUS filling unit features a platinum cured silicone rolling diaphragm that isolates the piston head from the cylinder, eliminating frictional contact between the two components for a virtually zero particulate operation. The DUS Diaphragms are molded from platinum cured silicone elastomers and are directly interchangeable with the original diaphragms. The silicone valves are identically suited for liquids that are shear sensitive, e.g. solutions that contain live cells.  The Tri-Clover® 316L stainless steel construction allows for this piston pump to be quickly disassembled and cleaned or autoclaved in place.

How it Works

During the infeed cycle, the piston moves downward, aspirating the product past the elastomer intake valve and into the pump cavity.  Vacuum applied to the underside of the diaphragm maintains the proper convolution, or roll, to the diaphragm. As the piston moves into the dispensing cycle, pressure produced by the moving piston closes the intake valve and opens the discharge valve. The piston inflates the diaphragm into the cylinder cavity, moves the liquid, and releases the preset volume from the nozzles.
