Preview of Filamatic®’s Equipment Innovations to be Featured at the Show

Filamatic® will exhibit its newest technology at PackExpo 06, Booth S-1106, at the McCormick Center in Chicago.  Show dates are October 29 through November 2, 2006.  Visitors will enjoy a thorough demonstration and explanation of each fill/finish operation of the exhibited semi-automatic and automatic liquid filling systems.

                    Equipment Demonstration

Filamatic®’s Versatile Digifil Filling System modular packaging line will be displayed in operation at the show. The integrated line will include an automatic bottle unscrambler, a DFS 8 head piston pump filler, with walking beam technology and attached trolley, a Beltwheel capping machine and an accumulator system. Unique to Filamatic® DFS fillers is the trolley based metering system. When used with a CIP (Clean in Place System), the system provides the industry’s fastest batch line changeover from one batch to the next.  The DFS system is THE system of choice for plants where many small lots are to be filled each production day.

Monobloc Packaging Machine:

Filamatic® will demonstrate its popular Monobloc packaging machine at the PackExpo show. The machine is equipped with a piston pump filling system. The Monobloc displayed has a dropper tip applicator station and a screw cap applicator station and will process a 10 ml container.  Filamatic® Monobloc machines are perfect for scientific packaging applications. Filamatic® Monoblocs are a natural solution for filling the varied container configurations found in the Medical, Bioscience, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical industries.

Bench Top Piston Pump Filling Machines:

Two Filamatic® benchtop piston pump filling machines will be displayed. The model AB-5 filler is lightweight and affordable. The AB-5 has a single head piston pump drive system and will handle a wide variety of piston pump sizes from 1ml (capable of 0.1 ml fills) up to 130ml pumps. The AB-5 cycles at rates of up to 35 dispense cycles per minute. For larger fills a DAB 32 Liquid Filling System will be displayed. The DAB-32 has two pump drives so that two containers can be filled simultaneously. The heavy duty DAB-32 can handle pumps from 1ml in size to 1100 ml size.  Filamatic®’s Benchtop Filling Systems provide solutions to many requirements found in laboratory, R&D and small batch production requirements.

Filamatic® piston pumps and bench top filling machines are typically capable of fill accuracy of up to + or – 0.5% (depending on fill speed and the liquid to be dispensed).

Additional media will be available to demonstrate added equipment and service capabilities, including molten product filling and incase filling and capping.

Contact us to discuss availability of show equipment.  Some exhibited equipment may be available for sale.

Set Up a Meeting with a Filamatic® Sales Professional at the Show

The PackExpo show is a great time to set up a meeting with a Filamatic® sales professional. Contact us at sales@filamatic.com with your requested date and time. We would be very happy to schedule a short meeting to discuss your application.

Labeling Machines are an Integral Part of the Fill/Finish Process

Container labeling is one of the key steps in any packaging line.  Almost every liquid holding container is labeled in some fashion.

When designing a packaging process, design engineers have two important axioms:

  1. To perform a process on a container, it must be captured and its position controlled.

  2. For efficiency, once the container is captured by the machine and under control, to perform as many process steps as possible before releasing the container.

                                          Monobloc with Labeler

In keeping with these two axioms, design engineers have created innovative methods of docking labeling machines to fill/finish equipment so that the labeling process can occur while the containers are still captured in the filler’s star wheel turret.

This process improves overall equipment efficiency and reduces costs by eliminating the need for additional container capturing tooling on the main deck of the filling system.

When interfacing a labeler with a filler, the labeler does not typically require its own conveyor. The filler container handling tooling is used to keep the containers under control during labeling.

When installing a labeling machine on an in-line filler/capper/labeler packing line, the labeler is frequently equipped with its own conveyor. The capping machine conveyor is typically side transferred to the labeler conveyor.

Labeling machines added to packaging lines can utilize typical label application method including “wrap on” and “blow on” labeling techniques with adhesive backed labels.

The labeling machines can also be equipped with PC driven label imprinting systems that can provide single color print ribbon, thermal transfer methods or multi-color print ribbon imprinting. Labeling machines can also be supplied with laser imprinting or ink-jet imprinting systems.

There are a wide variety of PC based label design and print control software to go along with the labeler. These software packages utilize typical word processing computer toolbars to allow the design of label text, design of barcodes, and inclusion of unique letter fonts and images to create your own label look.

The software packages typically allow for write-protection of label designs, password protection to prevent accidental modification to previously designed labels and control over lot-specific and non-lot specific information on a label. The software also acts as the controller of the print drivers for the imprinting head of the labeler.

Filamatic® offers labeling equipment with many of its filling and capping lines.  Contact us to discuss the type of filling and labeling you need for your current fill project.  We will provide the liquid filling solutions that best fit your application.
